Quake on Nintendo 64 is a console adaptation of id Software’s landmark first-person shooter, developed with Midway’s involvement for the platform. It preserves the original’s bleak sci-fi horror tone and fast movement while reworking levels and content for home console play. Built around intense gunfights, key-hunting, and maze-like stages, the port earned praise for keeping the spirit of Quake while offering its own mood, pacing, and split-screen multiplayer appeal.

Played from a first-person perspective, Quake sends players through dark labyrinthine stages filled with switches, colored keys, traps, and hostile monsters. Weapons gradually expand from shotguns to explosive heavy arms, and survival depends on strafing, dodging projectiles, and managing health and ammo. The Nintendo 64 version includes a single-player campaign and local split-screen multiplayer, with level layouts and progression tuned for the console experience.

Ranger

The player character, a lone space marine-like warrior sent into hostile dimensions to fight monstrous forces.

Learn each map’s shortcuts, key doors, and supply locations before rushing forward. Prioritize ranged enemies, use cover when crossing open spaces, and save rockets or stronger weapons for tougher monsters and cramped ambush rooms. When ammo is limited, rely on mid-tier weapons against weaker foes. In multiplayer, controlling armor, powerful weapons, and respawn routes gives a major advantage.
