Developed by Square, Front Mission 2 is a tactical role-playing game released for PlayStation in 1997. Set in 2102, six years after the original, it follows three intersecting storylines during a coup in the Republic of Alordesh. The game is remembered for its customizable Wanzers, layered turn-based battles, and a stronger focus on political storytelling than many mecha RPGs of its era.

Players command squads of Wanzers on grid-based battlefields in turn-based combat. Each machine is assembled from separate body, arm, and leg parts, and damage to those parts directly affects accuracy, movement, and weapon use. The new Link System lets allied units chain attacks on the same target, making positioning and target selection especially important. Outside combat, players advance through story missions, buy parts and weapons, and tune their loadouts to match each map and enemy composition.

Ashley Winchester

A major character tied to one of the game’s main storylines and the political turmoil in Alordesh.

Lyon L. de Vaal

A key figure associated with the Alordesh side of the conflict.

Hans Bryan

An important main-story member involved in the overlapping faction conflicts.

Use durable front-line units to absorb pressure while faster mechs flank priority targets. Early in battles, disabling enemy arm weapons can reduce incoming damage significantly; against heavily armored foes, target legs to limit movement. The Link System is strongest when several allies can focus-fire the same exposed enemy, so keep your formations compact enough to chain attacks. Before missions, tailor weapons for range and terrain, with clear roles for long-range support and close-quarters breakers.
