Sonic the Hedgehog: Pocket Adventure is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by SNK for the Neo Geo Pocket Color under license from Sega. Drawing inspiration from Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, it focuses on speed, precise jumps, stage gimmicks, and collecting Chaos Emeralds. Thanks to its strong controls, smart handheld adaptation, and polished stage design, it is widely regarded as one of the best portable Sonic games of its era.

The game uses a 2D side-scrolling perspective. Players control Sonic through multiple Zones, running, jumping, rolling, and using the spin dash. Stages feature springs, loops, moving platforms, hazards, and split routes, allowing both fast clears and exploration. Most Zones include two main acts followed by a boss fight. Rings act as protection when hit, and special stage access lets players collect Chaos Emeralds for a fuller ending.

Sonic

The blue hedgehog hero controlled by the player, relying on speed and spin attacks to clear stages.

Dr. Eggman

Sonic's recurring nemesis, appearing as the main boss in mechanical vehicles.

Knuckles

A rival character who appears during parts of the adventure and interferes with Sonic's progress.

If you want consistent progress, do not chase maximum speed at all times. Learn where enemies, spikes, and springs are placed first. Try to keep at least one ring for safety, since getting hit without rings costs a life. Many stages have high and low routes: upper paths are faster but riskier, while lower paths are safer and often better for item collection. For boss fights, watch the attack pattern and punish openings with jumps or spin attacks. If you want the best ending, prioritize finding special stage entrances and collecting every Chaos Emerald.
