Bushido Blade is a weapon-based fighting game developed by Light Weight and published by Square for PlayStation. Set in feudal Japan, it replaces traditional health bars and time limits with a duel system where a single precise strike can end a match. Its realistic weapon behavior, injury-based damage model, and tense one-on-one battles made it one of the most distinctive fighters of its era.

The game uses a 3D duel perspective and lets players choose from seven warriors armed with authentic weapons such as katana, nodachi, and naginata. Battles do not use normal health bars; instead, hits to different body parts can impair movement, defense, or attack power, and one clean strike can be fatal. Players must manage spacing, footwork, dashes, sidesteps, blocking, and counterattacks. Progress is based on learning weapon reach, timing, and positioning rather than character stats.

Kagemaru

A balanced swordsman with solid offense and defense.

Tatsumi

A fast martial warrior who favors direct, aggressive strikes.

Bai Hoo

A long-weapon specialist with wide attack range.

Nagi

A nimble fighter who relies on speed and pressure.

Tsubame

A skill-based swordswoman focused on timing and precision.

Konjin

A heavy-hitting warrior with slower but powerful attacks.

Sakon

A mid-range combatant who uses a large sword to control space.

Stay at a distance where you can react to the opponent’s weapon length and opening animation. Because matches can end in one hit, avoid overcommitting to long strings of attacks. Practice blocking into quick punishment, and use sidesteps against long-reach weapons. If you are injured, retreat and reset spacing instead of trading blows. Learning each weapon’s range is the key to consistent wins.
