The Lost Vikings, developed by Silicon & Synapse and published by Interplay in 1992, is a puzzle-platform adventure built around three Vikings with distinct abilities. Players guide the trio through an alien spaceship and other trap-filled stages, using character switching and coordination to solve environmental challenges. Its inventive design and cooperative puzzle structure made it a standout title of the 16-bit era.

The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Players control Eric, Baleog, and Olaf, each with unique skills: Eric jumps and charges, Baleog attacks enemies and breaks obstacles, and Olaf uses a shield to block attacks and act as a platform. Progress depends on solving stage puzzles with switches, lifts, teleporters, traps, and enemies. All three Vikings must reach the exit, so the player constantly switches between them and uses one character to protect, lift, or enable the others.

Eric the Swift

The most mobile Viking, specializing in jumps and charge attacks.

Baleog the Fierce

Armed with a sword and bow, he handles combat and breaks certain barriers.

Olaf the Stout

Uses a shield to block attacks and help teammates reach higher places.

Study each room before moving. Use Eric for long gaps, Olaf for defense and support, and Baleog to clear enemies or destructible obstacles. In tricky sections, secure a safe route first and then bring the other Vikings through one by one. Keep the group separated only when necessary, and avoid wasting health on reckless jumps or unnecessary fights.
